review

I thought this sequel was funnier than the first one. The story is as old as the hills revolving around unconditional acceptance in the face of discrimination, but from a monster’s point of view, and funny. One of the things that really made me laugh was the idea that everyone thought the Invisible Man had made up his girlfriend – also invisible and from Canada.

I was able to pick out the voice talents of Megan Mullally, but the movie was packed with well-know actors: Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Steve Buscemi, David Spade, Keegan-Michael Key, Fran Drescher, Molly Shannon, Nick Offerman, Dana Carvey and Mel Brooks.

SYNOPSIS

As kids in the 1980s, Sam Brenner (Adam Sandler), Will Cooper (Kevin James), Ludlow Lamonsoff (Josh Gad), and Eddie “The Fire Blaster” Plant (Peter Dinklage) saved the world thousands of times – at 25 cents a game in the video arcades. Now, they’re going to have to do it for real. In Pixels, when intergalactic aliens discover video feeds of classic arcade games and misinterpret them as a declaration of war, they attack the Earth, using the video games as the models for their assaults — and now-U.S. President Cooper must call on his old-school arcade friends to save the world from being destroyed by PAC-MAN, Donkey Kong, Galaga, Centipede, and Space Invaders. Joining them is Lt. Col. Violet Van Patten (Michelle Monaghan), a specialist supplying the arcaders with unique weapons to fight the aliens.

REVIEW

I was pleased to find this in the DVD rental store yesterday, as I enjoy this genre. I also find Kevin James and Adam Sandler funny, their movies family-friendly, which leads to humor and a good entertainment.

The throwback music accompanied the movie plot well and evoked feelings of nostalgia and memories of more innocent times in my own life. I never was an arcade nut, but I do remember when the arcade opened in Marina del Rey and the desire associated with wanting to part of a new thing and social life. My favorite arcade game used to be Centipede.

Fun movie!
