Easter Puppy

Easter Puppy

Well, he’s not exactly a puppy anymore, but he is still the love of my life. Yesterday, my aunt and cousin had their family over and there were about five children for the Fear Factor Easter Egg Hunt. Mom came over and started dropping eggs and apparently Mojo found one. Everyone tried to take the egg from his mouth to shell it, but he would not let go. They finally called me out, to whom he released the egg for shelling.

Resurrection Day 2012

So let’s say Jesus was resurrected on April 8. Explain to me please why Easter is on a different day every year? A friend of mine explained it is because the holiday follows the lunar calendar. Sounds plausible, but who in today’s times follows the lunar calendar except for the holidays of their choosing?

And what holiday would not be properly observed with a familial hullabaloo. A couple days ago, I explained to my mother that I was waiting for my checks, which were originally delivered in February, but have never been received due to the idiots at the United States postal service. The explanation continued with another set being mailed to me, and which should be received with seven to ten days. Not more than two days later she is inquiring about money again! I lost my patience and left, telling her not to expect any money from me anymore, so she would not have to nag me. Later, remembering my bagel I had left at her house, I returned to find my female sibling there, lecturing my mother on how to repair her life, discovering that the police had been called…glad I missed all that.

Later in the day my brother came over to explain the police incident. My female sibling was threatening to call the police, reporting my brother for elder abuse. My brother called them for her and told them to come arrest him. Apparently, the police were confused and wished to speak with my mother. As my brother handed the phone to my mother, the female sibling grabbed the phone. I don’t know what happened after that, but the police actually came out. What a bunch of nut jobs!

My focus today were my flowers. I was worried when I transplanted my Hippeastrum that thy would not bloom, but already I am seeing flower bulbs coming up from the ground. Yay! I can’t get over how tall my Zantedeschia are growing. The prettiest one is so tall that it fell over and provided me with the whimsical picture below. I am down from two Nectaroscordum to one this year, but that’s okay, as I am not overly impressed with this flower.

My goal this weekend was to rid the area in front of the Zantedeschia of grass, but I got caught up in knitting the Talking Tina Slouch Beanie and crocheting Puff the Magic Dragon Afghan. As such, I did manage to transplant my Leucanthemum from their blue pot to the ground. Maybe they will flower more in the ground.

The Iron Lady (2011)

The Iron Lady

courtesy impawards.com

SYNOPSIS: Movie Website
THE IRON LADY tells the compelling story of Margaret Thatcher, a woman who smashed through the barriers of gender and class to be heard in a male-dominated world. The story concerns power and the price that is paid for power, and is a surprising and intimate portrait of an extraordinary and complex woman.

REVIEW
I decided to forego my Wednesday morning knit group because I am so tired of the anemic, old women that so quick to play god and adjust the temperature to their liking: 80°. Maybe it’s a female thing because I continually explain to the early arrivals that allowing the room to be populated will increase the temperature of the room alone, but no one listens to me. My philosophy regarding temperature is that colder is better; one can always add clothing to defend against the cold while one has to remove clothing to adjust to the heat. Maybe they want to see all my blubber?

So what did I do instead? I watched The Iron Lady, a movie about an old woman. After viewing the movie, I was moved to compose the following email to President Obama, as Margaret Thatcher pretty much went through the same climate as Obama has had to bear during his first term in office:

I just finished watching The Iron Lady and I have more admiration for Margaret Thatcher than shall ever be elicited for any US politician, yourself included.

I am so disappointed in my vote for you and I am seriously casing my vote in another direction. But there is hope for you…

If you have not seen this movie, I suggest you do see it, learn from history and implement some of the policies put forth by Thatcher: flat tax for all citizens and having the balls to make necessary cuts.

The upcoming election is not a popularity contest. The president of the USA should be a strong individual instead of a vain automaton.

As far as my review goes, I found the movie a little dull, except for the historical content, which I always find fascinating, as I was a very poor history student in school — I just didn’t care back then; today I am eager to know history, but will probably forget by tomorrow. I thought Meryl Streep was excellent in her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher, though I have always been a fan of hers.

On The Other Hand

I admit that not all people are brainless automatons and today I am creating a new category: I Love People.

It all started when I heard a story on Good Morning America about some firemen saving dogs/puppies from a house on fire. I can’t find the story on the website to verify, but I think there were about 22 of them, the youngest estimated to be about two weeks old. Yay!

The second evidence I can present because I have the code! Despite my accusation that people are the blame for these dolphins going astray, I was so moved by this effort that the video almost brought a tear to my eye.

Finally I must say, being a long-time Today viewer, I absolutely refuse to watch Today while that horrid Sarah Palin is c0-hosting with Matt Lauer. Fortunately, Katie Couric is co-hosting with George Stephanopoulos on Good Morning America this week.

eLanes for Pedestrians?

Texting Lanes Prank

Courtesy http://tdn.com

I heard on the news today that there are eLanes for the distracted pedestrian. REALLY?

First of all, this started as a joke? If I lived in Philadelphia, I would not be laughing at the waste of taxpayer money for “The lines, signage and sidewalk graphics.” Secondly, if someone is so phone obsessed that they can’t pay attention to where they are walking, they deserve to fall, break their neck and pay for their own medical expenses. Seriously, who is going to police this?

This reminds me of a similar anecdote from The Kingdom of Leo. One evening while walking the royal pooch, Mojo, I saw a girl on a cell phone that was not paying attention to where she was walking. The King did not accommodate this fool and continued on his path. The girl had the nerve to react indignantly to The King, who admonished her for not paying attention to where she was walking, and later laughed at this digital automaton.

Even more recently, I actually went to a birthday party, venturing out. I was standing next to my cousin who was on his cellphone, wondering where his party guests were. A girl walked up to us and instead of introducing us, my cousin and the girl directed their attention to their phones. I just walked away.

For God’s sake, there is nothing that important that a real person should be ignored. It’s like people that leave their phone on and get mad because someone calls too early or in the middle of the night. You don’t have to answer the phone, ass-wipe!

Don’t even get me started on texters; why can’t they just dial the digits and talk to the person they want to contact? Oh by the way, please note the new category: I Hate People!

Leo Ventures Out

Phil's 44th Birthday

Last night I actually went somewhere there was no yarn – my cousin Phil’s 44th Birthday Party. I was told the party start time was 19:00 and I tried to be as late as possible, but I still arrived at 19:30 and had to wait approximately 1/5 hours before the other guests started to arrive. Despite being the only guest at the party for an hour and a half, I really enjoyed the music and light show.

When I got home, which was about 23:00, I went straight to bed with my little Mojo, who required some scruffies because he could smell the pit bull I had petted at the party. I think I fell asleep giving scruffies to Mojo.

Life of Pi

Life of PiYesterday while updating my Pinterest wall, I discovered that one of my favorite books, Life of Pi, will be released in theaters December 2012, starring Tobey Maguire and Gerard Depardieu and directed by Ang Lee. Hopefully, by then I will have a job and be able to afford to go to the movies and see it. Then again, I will have to do my research and find a theater that does not have assigned seating – what a pussy-ass move that was on the theaters part.

As I am being monitored, I have to make this post good, so for filler let me just offer my opinions on some current events:

George Zimmerman vs Trayvon Martin

  1. George was told by the 911 operator not to follow Trayvon
  2. I don’t know much about Florida’s “stand your ground” law, but a gun hardly seems justifiable force against a physical assault.

Celebrity Child-rearing

  1. While I absolutely loved Clueless, I hardly think that pre-chewing your baby’s food and feeding him as a baby bird is cute
  2. I wonder how Mayim Bialik’s — love her in The Big Bang Theory — choice to not diaper her children works?

Rainy Day in Culver City

Rainy, overcast days are absolutely the best for taking picture’s of God’s creations. A majority of the images are the blooms from mom’s backyard: Cymbidium, Begonia, Scaevola aemula, Rhododendron and the two unknown blooms. By the way, if you know the names of the unknown blooms, please notify me. The Zantedeschia aethiopica is from King Acres.

Spring Comes Early This Year

I can’t believe we have not even turned the clocks forward — another stupid-ass tradition — and I already have my Freesia blooming. Since my nephew broke the pot the Hippeastrums were in, I finally got around to breaking it and transplanting the hippies to the bed in front of my window with my Zantedeschia, which are also blooming now. I don’t know if the Chrysanthemums I chopped down last fall will come back. We’ll see. You will also note the new paint job on the housing exterior.
