I think this is some kind of wasp, still dozing.

So yesterday I am sitting, crocheting and the phone rings. It is Designer Show Warehouse (DSW). They want me to come in Friday for a group interview. I confirmed my attendance as I knew I was available at that moment. I am supposed to call Michaels today for my schedule. I only pray that I will be able to attend. I don’t know what type of work it is, but it is closer and parking is not an issue.

My first thought when I received the call yesterday was what I had discussed with La Reina de las Abejas ( The Secret proponent), who told me that once I start working I will attract more work. Imagine that!

This is how I feel after my first full day of work at Michaels – completely deflated. As I write this post my heels are still sore, but at least I am upright.

I was scheduled to call tomorrow, Wendesday, to obtain my schedule, but I received a call from Micheals about 11:00, asking me if I could come in from 14:00 to 22:00. I gladly agreed as I did thought it would work in my favor. I was asked to bring in my driver’s license and social security card for I-9 verification. I stated I could scan them and email them, but was told they did not have email, so I need to bring them in.

While there is limited parking, I called the bus lines to figure out how to get there. Because of insufficient time notification, I ended up driving, allowing me to cool down after preparing for work. When I arrived, I was asked to go to the library and obtain copies, which caused me to work up a sweat prior to beginning my shift.

While my uniform does not reveal it, my t-shirt I wore is covered with dried sweat lines because while the store is air-conditioned, the front door remains open and it was warm in there. After two years of working on my feet and having woke at my normal time of 06:00, I was worn out. Most of my day consisted of returning unsold items to the shelves. This was good practice to learn the layout of the store, but very boring. Fortunately, I was able to interact with customers, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

While I am grateful that I am employed, I am beginning to have second thoughts about working retail. At least as an office assistant, I would be in a air-conditioned building and have minimal physical exertion. One good thing I discovered is a clearance bin in the back of the store, where I found a supply of yarn. Using my gun, I discovered that it is not a significant reduction in price, but will inquire again and keep my eyes on that bin for when I am ready to make my yarn purchase.

I am thinking of notifying Michaels that I can’t work Monday nights in the future, as I had to miss my Monday night stitch ‘n’ bitch with the Culver City Crafters. I definitely need to notify them that I can’t work the third Thursday of each month, as I am the lead for my new stitch ‘n’ bitch group, Playa Vista Yarn Crafters at the Playa Vista Library.

While at Common Ground, I noticed a bunch of yarn on a shelf. I inquired about it and was told they had tried to start a group, but due to lack of interest, nothing had transpired. I stated that because I was unemployed, I would love to take some if it was not going to be used. My case manager checked and said I could take home a bag. God, it was hard not to be greedy.

I had called Michaels before entering Common Ground, but due to a slow internet connection, I was asked to call back. Upon leaving Common Ground, I called back, discovered I had passed the background check and was scheduled for orientation Wednesday at 09:00. I assume this means I have been hired. Praise the lord!

On the way home, I stopped by Halloween Adventure (previously misidentified as Spirit Halloween) for an interview. I don’t think it went so well, but I don’t care, as I am banking on Michaels.

I just got home and followed up on the voice mail I had received at my parents house Friday. The person I need to speak to was away from her desk, so I left a voice mail. I am still going to follow-up as this is a full time job versus seasonal work from Michaels.

Tomorrow I am going to orientation at Chrysalis, an employment agency I was referred to by Common Ground. I am hoping that I will have time to get to Spirit Halloween in time for an interview afterward. Today, after my parents returned from Weldon, I was notified of a voice mail from Friday about someone calling me for a job. I will also call them tomorrow to follow up.

Having been spiritually enlightened by an animated feature, I am letting to of the job thing and taking a few days off.

I have been calling Michael’s everyday, as instructed by the store manager, with home I have a great relationship with and who stated he wanted to hire me, and yesterday after putting me on hold, I guess this tight ass who tells me that if I don’t hear from them in two days, I can assume they have moved on. What the fuck? La Reina de las Abejas says not to read too much into it, but I know a brush off when I hear one. Why don’t they just tell me I didn’t pass the background check? Of course, I could be all wrong; I am just venting.

Next I call the temp agency to inform them I am available. I decided to have a chat with my staffing manager, as I feel I am being burdensome, discussing the difference between temping back in the day and today. He tells me essentially, there are not more temp jobs; he primarily is placing temp to hire. In other words a headhunter. Aiyaa!

So today I am enjoying the present that today is, letting go of all things work, focusing on crochet, which I am really enjoying and going to lunch at the Grand Lux Cafe.

OMG! I finally exhaled. Yesterday, I finally went to cash the checks that I had so generously received from some friends to help me out in my time of financial distress. I then went to get a full tank of gas and then to the library to rent some free movies.

In the evening, my desire for a cigarette won out, so I began looking for my wallet to go buy a pack, but I could not find it. I did find some small change and was able to buy my cigs, but now I was stressed out at the fact that I might have lost my wallet…again! I even drove to the library to see if I had dropped it in the parking lot. No such luck and I would have to wait until Tuesday to call. Thanks Governor Schwarzenegger!

Today I cleaned my room top to bottom and still no luck. While talking with my cousin, who related a story of lost and found purchases from Target, I decided to go out to the car and do a thorough check. Lo and behold! My wallet had fallen onto the passenger side of the car between the seat and the door.

Perhaps this is the sign that things are going to turn around for me?

I must admit that it makes me feel good that I am desirable as an employee, but I keep running into that wall of regret at my past life choice mistakes.

The lady I interviewed with on Monday said she would notify the agency of her choices by the end of the day or on Tuesday. Since I have not heard from the Team One, I called today to follow-up.

This morning, I found an inquiry from another actor, inquiring about a website and a colleague of mine had forwarded another contract position for a blog.
