I received my Radiation Oncology referral yesterday. After taking mom shopping for groceries – in lieu of rent this month – I came home to take care of all my medical stuff. On the referral was a note from my Venice Family Clinic case worker: “Call your insurance to change (my address from Los Angeles Department of Public Social Services [DPSS] to my address).”

Called to find out who I have to call to get address changed. I still don’t understand this whole medical insurance/managed care bullshit. He says to call L. A. Care Health Plan.

Informed that I need to call Medi-Cal Help Line.

Need to call DPSS Customer Service 310-258-7400

after 17 minutes on hold, I was told I need to be xfer’d to another group…
Cannot change address as it relates to the fact that I am technically homeless.

So the answer to the question is one hour and five phone calls later, and I am back to the same place I started.
Is it because people/society think that people on Medi-Cal don’t work and have all day to be on the phone to get pertinent information? How the fuck are people relegated to such horrible service supposed to find time to look for a frikkin’ job?
Furthermore, why do I have to choose English every time I call a United States agency? Last time I checked English was the national language in the United States of America. If immigrants want to move here, at least they should be held accountable for learning our language instead of us catering to them! I like the way mom classifies incompetence: “They need their dick held while they pee!”
