SYNOPSIS
In this terrifying glimpse into the “American Dream” gone wrong, an unexplainable phenomenon has taken over the citizens of Ogden Marsh. One by one the townsfolk are falling victim to an unknown toxin and are turning sadistically violent. People who days ago lived quiet, unremarkable lives are now depraved, bloodthirsty killers.
While Sheriff Dutton (
Timothy Olyphant) and his pregnant wife, Judy (Radha Mitchell), try to make sense of the escalating violence, the government uses deadly force to close off all access and won’t let anyone in or out – even those uninfected. An ordinary night becomes a horrifying struggle for the few remaining survivors as they do their best to get out of town alive.
Breck Eisner (Sahara) directs this suspenseful reinvention of the George A. Romero classic. Source:

REVIEW
Apparently, this movie is a remake of a 1973 production by the same name. I never saw the original, but might like to check it out just for comparison sake.
I like this genre of film a la
30 Days of Night and
28 Days Later, but not enough to go out and pay to see the movie in a theater. Therefore, I watched this as a DVD rental.
I was not so scared, as the plot is formulaic. The movie did renew my disgust with “big brother.” The ending was just too cruel. I loved how the suspicions are risen about who is sick and who is not.
In addition to liking Timothy,
Joe Anderson was looking good too in a redneckish/country boy kind of way. You know how I love my skinny boys. Mmm!
I must comment that the dark scenes should have just been cut out of the movie, not that you can’t guess what is happening, but they are such a waste of time. I could not see anything and actually missed some action because of it, though I was able to figure out what happened afterward. I really should check to see if it is my television/DVD player. It’s possible that it could be me viewing equipment, but most movies I watch with dark scenes are hardly visible.
Entertaining rental.
